You will be taught at both Nottingham Business School and the University of Valencia in Spain. The six month internship in Spain (or a Spanish speaking country) in Year Three will enable you to apply your knowledge and experience in an international business environment.
As the course is a dual-award you will graduate with both of the following:
- a BA (Hons) International Business with Spanish
- Grado en International Business / Negocias Internationales (University of Valencia).

Special featuresYear One is spent at Nottingham Business School. During Year Two you will study full-time at the University of Valencia. In Year Three you will study for the first half of the year in Valencia, and then spend the second half on internship in Spain (or a Spanish speaking country). You will then return to the UK to spend your final year back at Nottingham Business School.
What will I study?Our commitment is to educate you for management in an
international environment. The course therefore includes a broad
range of business subjects at both institutions, but in particular
those with an international focus. These are joined by modules
facilitating cultural and language learning.
Emphasis is placed throughout the degree on understanding the
theoretical underpinning of international business together with
furthering practical skills and knowledge. Studying at the
University of Valencia will allow you the opportunity to study in
both Spanish and English.

Year One
Modules include:
- Foundations of Managing and Organising
- Accounting and Finance for International Managers
- Spanish Language
- Marketing and Operations Management
- Quantitative Methods for International Business
- Culture, Communication and Learning.
Year Two
- Full year study at University of Valencia
Year Three
- Half year study at University of Valencia
- Half year internship with a Spanish speaking company
Final year
Modules include:
- Research Project
- International Strategic Management
- International Tourism and Development
- Exploring Global Markets
- Leadership and Employability (International Business).
Plus one optional module from:
- Global Supply Chain Strategy
- International Marketing and Communications
- Jean Monnet Europe and the World Economy
- Spanish Language.
The course is taught at both Nottingham Business School and the University of Valencia in Spain. A wide range of teaching methods are employed, including:
- lectures
- staff and student led seminars
- IT workshops
- case studies
- role plays
- group discussions
- project work
- group and individual presentations
- problem based learning.
Whilst at Nottingham Business School you will receive on average 12 - 15 hours of teaching per week from a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll then be expected to increase your understanding of the subject area through independent study for each module.
Additional to this, you will also have further timetabled contact time for your induction, at the beginning of the year, and sessions on employability and opportunities that you can get involved with whilst at university.
Personal tutor sessionsYou will also have a number of one on one tutor sessions, which will allow you to:
- Discuss and gain feedback about your work.
- Ask questions about the projects you're working on.
- Raise any difficulties you are experiencing relating to your work, personal circumstances or your University experience.
During your first year, these sessions will be scheduled approximately once a fortnight. During your final year, this will be approximately once a month.
How will I be assessed?As well as attending lectures, seminars and workshops, you will also carry out:
- hands-on computing
- personal research and essay / report writing
- case studies
- group work
- individual projects
- role-play
- case studies
- presentations.
You will typically be assessed through a combination of coursework, projects and examinations. None of your modules will be assessed through practical work. However, the course has been designed to help you develop a range of practical skills, for which further details can be found in the 'How will I learn' section above.
In response to student feedback the University has introduced a policy that ensures you are given feedback on assessment within three weeks of submission.
Whilst studying in Nottingham all students will attend lectures and seminars at NTU's City site, in the impressive Newton Building, home to Nottingham Business School.
Virtual learning environmentYou'll also use our virtual learning environment, NOW. This is a flexible web-based system that allows you to have 24-hour access to module learning materials and reading lists. It allows you to discuss work with tutors and other students, and submit coursework electronically from anywhere in the world.
Learning from industry expertsOur tutors have industry experience in their specialist field. This means you will gain practical insight into these fields and how companies are run.
