What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

Four GCSEs at Grade D or above including Mathematics and English or an equivalent qualification at Level 1 with a Functional Skill either in English or Maths. Enthusiasm to achieve is essential.

What does the course involve?

As part of this one year course you will learn how to communicate effectively in the IT industry – say goodbye to the jargon! You will also learn how to maintain computer systems successfully and have the option of learning about online businesses. This course provides you with the opportunity to take your future into your own hands.

No experience in IT? Not a problem! We guarantee that by the end of the course, you will have understood the essential components of IT and the industry. You will study the following units:

Unit 1: Communication in the IT industry
• Unit 2: Working in the IT industry
• Unit 3: Installation of computer systems

Optional Units: are subject to change

• Unit 7: Installation hardware components
• Unit 10: Setting up an IT network
• Unit 4: Business
• Unit 22: Business on-line

There is also a specialist unit: IT essentials

All learners will undertake Functional Skills and Enrichment.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? You could move on to a Level 3 course, a BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners, or in Business. You will also have developed the skills necessary to apply for employment in a variety of fields such as: • Communicating and Working in the IT industry • Installation & Computer Systems • Setting up a network • Database Systems • Website Production • Developing Computer Games
