This course takes a more experimental approach to all forms of embroidery, fabric-painting and related textile and fibre techniques.

Basic sewing equipment, embroidery threads, tambour frame (discuss with tutor at first session), washed calico or cotton fabric, sketchbook/ drawing pad or paper, pencil, pens etc. Cost of fabrics, threads, dyes etc can often be shared within the group.

Course Aim & Objective:

To develop skills in design and embroidery techniques; to meet, discuss, share ideas with similarly interested people.

Develop your own designs using simple design techniques; understand a variety of creative embroidery techniques and apply knowledge to future projects.

Assessment:

Continuous observation, Question & Answer sessions, discussion, to complete a project started in class.

Course Syllabus:

Learn and experiment with new, innovative ideas in creative embroidery and design; a series of inspirational exercises will guide you through the design process for personal interpretation with tutor guidance. Develop your own ideas for embroidery with simple design techniques. Techniques include: hand- and machine-embroidery, fabric- and thread-painting and printing.
