Build the skills to lead the future

As we embrace a zero-emission energy system, there is now a growing consensus that hydrogen will play a critical role in the race to decarbonisation. Hydrogen can be used to store and transport (renewable) energy efficiently. It is poised to meet a vast range of energy needs and accelerate efforts to achieve a climate-neutral economy by 2050.

As momentum gathers, demand for skills and expertise in the Hydrogen industry is set to grow exponentially.

Hydrogen’s Role in the Energy Transition is an online introductory course for forward-thinking professionals looking to leverage the innovation wave. Delivered by Energy Delta Institute and EIT InnoEnergy, this course discusses the role of Hydrogen in achieving a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. The online, self-paced learning course includes two interactive, virtual sessions and gives you a rock-solid understanding of all the dynamics at play: from the role of Hydrogen in the energy value chain, the actors in the context of Hydrogen production, transport, storage and end-use applications to economic, institutional, policy and regulation, safety and societal dimensions.

How you benefit

Hydrogen’s Role in the Energy Transition will empower you to:

  • Critically reflect on the energy transition and the implications it has on energy systems today
  •
  • Acquire strategic insight into important building blocks of future energy systems
  •
  • Appreciate the potential role of Hydrogen within the energy transition
  •
  • Determine relevant links of the Hydrogen value chain: mainly production, transportation, storage and end-use
  •
  • Identify the end uses of hydrogen for decarbonisation in: industry, mobility, built environment
  •
  • Explain the advantages of hydrogen against other fuel carriers, especially in comparison to electrification
  •
  • Understand how Hydrogen works in power generation, energy storage, heating, industry, mobility, and stand-alone systems
  •
  • Summarise the legal and policy challenges related to the use of Hydrogen
  •
  • Spot and leverage new opportunities for hydrogen

The blended programme consists of a Small Private Online Course and two intensive three-hour virtual sessions, which can be taken from the participants’ usual study location. Specifically, the online course consists of two online learning modules of five lessons each, which participants can follow at their own pace. Each lesson includes relevant reading materials. Some practice exercises are added and there will be online assessments to test your learning. In addition, the course includes case work on hydrogen applications and innovations. This is followed by the two virtual sessions with energy experts and our academic expert, Theo Fens. During these sessions, you will be able to network with other experts and participants.
