How is the Practical skills in carbon and energy management course structured?

The programme has a unique structure that includes a two day course (day one - carbon footprinting, day two – energy management) followed by a single day's on-site consultancy to support the introduction of a new carbon reduction or energy efficiency programme.

The consultancy will include a full day on site support. EEF recognises that every customer environment is unique as such it is envisaged that the customer will prescribe how they wish to use the consultancy day. For example a customer may choose to use the consultancy to run an on-site gap analysis to identify areas to focus their energy reduction strategy or to support the use of the carbon footprinting tools provided. The consultancy day will be followed up with a report on activities undertaken during the day with recommendations for next steps.

The course is built around the principles of the European Standards BS EN 16001 (energy), and ISO 14064 & Defra September 2009 GHG reporting guidelines (carbon). It will be taught by expert instructors that have significant carbon and energy management experience together with a broad knowledge of the standards.

Carbon management workshop

Our one day carbon management workshop is based upon the GHG Protocol, ISO14064 Part 1 and DEFRA 2009 guidelines. The agenda is a mix of presentations and workshop sessions based upon a manufacturing case study. A full toolkit of reference guidance, calculation spreadsheets and reporting procedures and template is provided.

By the end of the day workshop delegates should be capable of establishing a robust measure and preparing a best practice report of their organisations greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Overview of UK legislation, mandatory schemes and reduction targets.
  • Greenhouse gas reporting standards overview.
  • Identifying and classifying emissions sources.
  • Setting appropriate organisational boundaries.
  • Standard and best practice emissions sources to include.
  • Calculating emissions and producing robust emissions data reports.
  • Dealing with leased assets, estimated or missing data and trivial emissions sources.
  • Accounting for green tariff electricity and reductions.

Energy management workshop

Our one day "Introduction to Energy Management" workshop will make you aware of the importance of energy management within a manufacturing environment and why it is vital to develop a robust programme with established targets at improving energy utilisation in your business.

The workshop is designed to encourage you to adopt and implement the principles behind BS EN 16001, the new standard for Energy Management Systems. It will address the key recent requirements that now bring energy to the fore as business priority.

  • Setting the scene
  • Planning for Efficiency
  • Technological options, Best Practices, Monitoring and Targeting
  • Energy Management Systems Implementation and operation
  • Energy auditing & Solution development
  • Renewables & emerging technologies
  • External Support
  • Making the case for energy savings projects
  • Next steps with Consultancy and implementation

On-site consultancy

Our one day on-site consultancy is designed to complement the tools and practical skills learnt during the carbon and energy management course. Because each customer environment is unique we will design the service to suit your specific needs.
