Course Description

This course is aimed at students who have completed the Level 2 Garden Design, without previously having taken the RHS General Horticulture or the Level 1 Garden Design and will enable students to increase their understanding of using plants in design.

Course content:
Plants for places
Soil testing and plants for acid and alkaline soils
Plants for sunny and shady sites
Plants for wet and dry soils
Background planting
Ground cover and edging plants

Plant Characteristics
Foliage texture and plants with large leaves
Plant form and habit.
Use of colour in planting design.
Structural plants and framing.
Ensuring all year round interest in the garden

Assessment:
The selection of plants for a bed and the production of a planting scheme.
This course will lead to a Bicton Certificate in Planting Design.
