Course Overview
This is a new one year course offering you the opportunity to study Science using hands-on practical techniques. You will acquire new skills along with an understanding of key concepts and processes through engaging and motivating classroom and laboratory activities. A range of science subjects such as Principles of Science; Chemistry and our Earth; Biology and our Environment; Energy and our Universe; The Living Body and Biotechnology Techniques will be studied. Throughout the course, there willbe external visits to local industries and Science exhibitions and the opportunity to participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) competitions.

Level 2 Essential Skills qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT are also embedded within the programme of study for students who have not achieved grade C in English Language, Mathematics and a Level 2 ICT qualification. At least one course in Employability Skills will be undertaken by all students.

You will be assessedby a combination of two compulsory external examinations, written assignments, practical work and industrial experience. Essential Skills will be assessed by examination and portfolio work.

Where will this course take you
Students successfully completing this course may seek employment within science based enterprises or apply for a range of Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas, which may provide a route to higher education.
