Who is this course for?

This course is for you if you have a keen interest in the catering industry and would like to gain the basic skills required to begin a career within a professional kitchen or food service.

You will do practical kitchen classes to develop your skills and knowledge of basic cookery methods, including use of equipment and health and safety. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, and English and Maths.

What qualifications do I need?

  • 3 GCSEs Grade E or above
  • You should have a strong interest in working in the catering and hospitality sector and demonstrate a commitment to succeed

What could I do after completing the course?

Further Education:

  • VRQ in Professional Cookery - Level 2

Employment:

  • Assistant Chef in hotel or public houses
  • Catering Assistant in schools, hospitals, prisons, factories
  • General front of house staff
  • Food and Beverage Assistan


Are there any additional costs?

Learners will be required to purchase their own personal equipment. Also a uniform is required to work in the kitchen and restaurant, prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
