The Extended Diploma will provide you with a range of experience to help support a potential career in the Graphics industry or progression onto Higher Education at University or apprenticeships at Design studios.

What will I do on the course?

You will learn about the range of the graphic design industry and develop a range of skills and disciplines. You will get the opportunity to explore a range of observational drawing and illustration, graphics, Typography and layout computer illustration and Design principles and fashion promotion working with other Btec pathways. The course is made up of a series of units delivered over two years, which includes the opportunity to work within the varied realms of the Graphic Design industry.

Five Fixed Units:

  • Visual Recording in Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Ideas and Concepts in Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Communication Through Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Contextual Influences in Art & Design (10 credits)

Thirteen Specialist Units may include:

  • Application, Exploration and Realisation in Art & Design (20 credits)
  • Design Principles in Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Computers in Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Collaborative working in Art & Design (10 credits)
  • Starting a Small Business (10 credits)
  • Image Manipulation computer Applications (10 credits)
  • Mixed Media Image Making (10 credits)
  • Typographic and layout Design (10 credits)
  • Words and Images In Graphic design (10 credits)
  • Narrative Image Making (10 credits)
  • Product Design (10 credits)
  • Digital Image Capture and Editing (10 credits)

What qualifications do I need?

  • 4 GCSEs at Grades A-C including English or Maths OR 5 GCSEs at Grades A-C excluding English or Maths. Also including 1 Art or design GCSE
  • BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design (Merit)
  • A portfolio of your work will be examined at interview as well as qualifications to assess suitability and skills level
  • A real desire to develop your creative skills and become part of creative culture
