Who is this course for?

This is a good course for you if you enjoy learning through practical work and if you have a passion for the outdoors and want to work with horses.

What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of some classroom sessions and lots of practical horse care work. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. Your tutor will encourage you to attend a voluntary horse care placement 1 day each week. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, and English and Maths. We also offer English and Maths GCSE resits.

What qualifications do I need?

  • 3 GCSEs Grade E or above
  • You should have a strong interest in working with horses and demonstrate a commitment to succeed.

How long does the course last?

One year - full-time

What could I do after completing the course?

Further Education:
  • Diploma in Horse Care - Level 2.
Employment:
  • Groom in a yard or riding school.

Are there any additional costs?

Learners may be required to purchase their own personal equipment during the course, this will include appropriate yard clothing and equipment (hard hat, boots etc.). There may also be additional costs for trips and visits, but these are not essential for completion of the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
