End Qualification:

Extended diploma courses have 3 achievement points: you will work towards the subsidiary diploma qualification in the first year of the course and will have the opportunity to work towards either the diploma or the extended diploma in the second year.

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

External applicants require 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C (including English) or completion of a full level 2 equivalence at merit or above. Appropriate subjects would be science, agriculture or horticulture.
Applications from learners with the Higher Diploma in Environmental and Land Based Studies would be encouraged.

Internal applicants require a level 2 diploma in agriculture or horticulture at merit or distinction standard and full successful completion of existing course footprint (i.e. functional skills, technical qualifications, etc).

Consideration will be given to exceptional circumstances.

Assessment:

Assessment is based on continuous appraisal of performance in the various components. Course work execution, group work contribution and fulfilment of practical assignments.

Progression from this course:

The course leads to a range of opportunities within the environmental land-based sector. Successful students may wish to progress to a level 4/5 qualification in a related subject area such as geography, ecology, agriculture or environmental science. Students can choose to specialise in industries relevant to their chosen sector such as environmental protection, conservation, water pollution, waste management or local authority employment.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information.
