Methods of Assessment

The four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking - are assessed by examination.

Enrichment

There are opportunities throughout the year to go on trips to the cinema, theatre, universities and conferences. Some students choose to go on a work experience placement and there is also the opportunity to take part in a French Exchange.

Resources

The courses are supported by textbooks, CDs, DVDs and a wide variety of authentic material as well as television and radio broadcasts and internet resources. The College’s Virtual Learning Environment Moodle allows students to access pod casts, videos, homework, class work and a wide range of resources prepared and selected by their teachers

Progression

Students combine French with a wide range of other subjects and a foreign language qualification is considered to be a most valuable asset in many vocational areas.

Five GCSEs at grade C or above or the equivalent from four subject areas including GCSE English. GCSE French at grade B or above is also essential.

Charges

Students have the opportunity to attend film showings at student rates and attend a French Study Day. Student exchange visits cost in the region of £400. (Halsbury. Work experience) Bristol Bordeaux exchange or St Brendan’s French Exchange.
