Description

To continue to develop your Maths problem-solving and analytical skills this course allows you to study further core areas. This subject includes algebra and functions, sequences and series trigonometry followed by the study of decision Maths. You are not permitted to take Further Mathematics without also studying A level Mathematics.

Your study will include: Unit 1 - Further Pure Maths 1; Unit 2 - Decision Maths 1; Unit 3 - Decision Maths 2; Unit 4 - Further Pure Maths 3; Unit 5 - Further Pure Maths 4; Unit 6 - Statistics 1 or Mechanics 1.

There is no formal coursework assessment on this course but you will undergo a number of timed examinations.

Your Further Mathematics AS level can be a stand-alone qualification or lead on to A2 study. You will have your own specialist personal tutor who you will meet individually or as part of a group tutorial and they will help you set review and achieve your targets. There is an extensive programme of support to help you make higher education decisions and move on to university. The vast majority of A level students progress successfully to higher education. There is an extensive programme of enrichment opportunities on offer and you will be encouraged to select from a range including volunteering, work experience, sport and performing.

Six GCSEs grades A* to C including English Language and an A or A* grade in GCSE Maths higher tier. A minimum of a D grade at AS allows you to progress on to your second year of study.

You could go on to higher level study on a degree course in Maths Engineering or the Pure Sciences or alternatively enter employment.
