Datacoms Testing (Cat 5 & 6)

Course Description:

This 1-day course aims to ensure that delegates can successfully test and certify voice and datacoms cable to the relevant standards.

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:

- Describe the testing methods for voice and datacoms cable
- Identify the relevant testing standards
- Test voice cable
- Operate a Level 3 tester
- Manipulate tester software
- Fault find on datacoms cabling

- Installation technicians and supervisors of datacoms networks
- Test engineers who will be required to perform characterisation or acceptance testing of structured
cabling networks

- Maintenance staff who will be required to perform routine maintenance or emergency fault
finding and repair

• Structured cabling overview, networks, definitions

Standards and Generic Cabling

• Standards review, generic cabling

Voice Cable Testing

• Components of a network, telephone cables
• Tone and gene testing, 'tapping' out

Certification Testing

• Testing to standards, using certification cable testers, setting up, test parameters, interpretation of results

Practical Testing and Fault Finding

• Testing and certifying installed cable, fault finding on voice and data cables

Saving Results

• Saving and downloading test results, cable testing software
