But NEC's A level in English literature for home study is not just about reading; students will be required to think critically about what they have looked at, and to develop skills in evaluating texts according to a variety of criteria.
This course considers some pre-twentieth century literature as well as more modern works. It includes comparative studies, and looks at the cultural and social contexts in which texts were written.
Activities underline the importance of incorporating textual evidence when answering essay questions, and are designed to fully prepare students for their exams.

Entry requirements and hours of study
- A GCSE in English literature would help, but no formal qualifications are necessary.
- You should allow 150 hours of study for the AS and 150 hours for the A2, plus extra time for completing assignments.

Coursework
One written exam for the AS (2hrs) and one coursework portfolio (two written pieces). One written exam for the A2 (2hrs30mins) plus one coursework task.
