If you are looking for solid basic knowledge and practical understanding of the care and needs of animals, either as pets, on the farm, in the wild or in the workplace, then this is the course for you.
Successful completion of the course will prepare you for employment in a variety of animal industries and enable you to progress further in education (for example on Level 2 Diploma in Animal Management), or train as an Apprentice. This course would ideally suit applicants who have achieved a Level 1 qualification, and those who would benefit from the additional support incorporated within the course.
Due to funding constraints, this courses is only open to 16-18 year olds.

Course Content
The Level 2 Extended Certificate includes units on:
- Maintain the health and welfare of animals
- Introduction to caring for farm livestock
- Understand British wildlife species, habitat and rehabilitation
The course also includes:
- Level 1 Certificate in work-based animal care (formerly NVQ)
- Level 1 Award in Work Skills
- Level 2 Award in Safe Learning in the Workplace
- Functional Skills (Maths and English)
Three days a week at college. A mix of practical instruction, practical activities and theory sessions.
Days - Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at Grade D to G
or a BTEC Level 1/NVQ 1 / foundation level qualification together
with a genuine interest in animals and enthusiasm for working in
animal care plus Level 1 functional skills.
Progression/Employment
Level 2 Diploma in Animal Management
Level 2 in Agriculture / Equine
Apprenticeship - Animal Care / Agriculture/ Equine
Level 2 dog grooming assistant
Employment as an animal care assistant, kennel or cattery worker or pet shop assistant.
