  • The only MSc in Early Intervention in Psychosis worldwide.
  • Taught by clinical academics who have carried out pioneering work in this area.
  • Two-month clinical attachment in a world-class early intervention service.
  • Flexible programme which can be taken over a period of one to four years.

PURPOSEEarly intervention in psychosis is becoming an integral part of mental health services in the UK and worldwide; however, specialist training in this area remains sparse and it can be difficult for mental health services to recruit clinicians with the required expertise. This course helps address this challenge by providing world-class specialised training to mental health professionals and non-clinical academics interested in this area.

DESCRIPTIONThe course adopts a multidisciplinary approach, capitalizing on the most recent findings from a range of clinical and non-clinical disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, genetics, neuroscience, epidemiology and biostatistics.

The course combines (i) classroom teaching from world-experts in the field with (ii) a 2-month clinical placement in an early intervention service for psychosis within the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (see http://www.slam.nhs.uk).

At the end of the course, students will have acquired specialised theoretical and practical expertise to carry out clinical work and cutting-edge research in early intervention in psychosis, and to establish and develop an early intervention service.

Teaching will be delivered by mental health professionals with extensive experience in early intervention in psychosis (e.g. Dr. Julia Lappin, Dr. Eric Morris, Dr. Eduardo Iacoponi, Dr. Majella Byrne) and clinical academics who have published extensively on the topic (e.g. Prof. Robin Murray, Prof. Philip McGuire, Prof. Shitij Kapur, Dr. Paola Dazzan, Dr. Lucia Valmaggia, Dr. Paolo Fusar-Poli, Dr. Matthew Taylor, Dr. Andrea Mechelli).
