Who is this programme for?

This programme has been designed to meet the needs of a broad range of education professionals as well as those with an interest in furthering their knowledge in this field. The variety of modules available will be of interest to teachers in a range of subjects and phases, educators interested in leadership or promotion, and other professionals interested in various aspects of education including policy and development. Students are welcomed from anywhere around the world.

Entry requirements

A good first degree, 2:2 minimum, or the equivalent. (Note: some optional modules may have additional entry requirements).

How are you assessed?

The two core modules ('What is Education?' and 'Introduction to Social Research' ) are assessed by written examination. The mode of assessment may vary for optional modules but most are assessed by written coursework. The dissertation is assessed by a combination of written examination (50%) and a 12,000-word dissertation (50%).

Attendance

The first core module 'What is Education?' will take place in the summer (late July to early September) and can be studied either fully online or in mixed mode (a combination of online delivery and a two-week intensive course at the Institute in London). Students taking the mixed mode option will be required to attend the Institute daily lectures and seminars throughout the two weeks from 22 July – 2 August 2013 inclusive. A second core module 'Introduction to Social Research' will be taught fully online in Spring (January – March) 2014

Optional modules are taught in a variety of modes including mixed mode, intensive short-courses, face-to-face or online. Students may select modules to suit their preferred mode of study and circumstances. It is possible to complete the full MA by distance learning.

Students may select two option modules. An indicative list of the type of modules that may be on offer is available on the University of London International Programmes website or in the programme flyer (pdf, 3.18mb). The modules are listed under one of three blocks (headings). Students select two option modules. Each of the modules chosen must be from a different block.
