The 2394 / 2395 course package is intended for people working in the electrical industry who have existing knowledge of inspection and testing but who need to complete the formal qualifications and refresh and/or upgrade their skills in initial verification, certification, and /or periodic inspection & testing of electrical installations.

2394 Initial Verification of Electrical Installations – Level 3

This comprises one mandatory unit: ‘Principles, practices and legislation for the final verification of electrical installations’.

  • Requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations

  • Safety of systems and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning

2395 Inspection, Testing and Reporting of Electrical Installations – Level 3

This comprises one mandatory unit: ‘Principles, practices and legislation for the periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations.’

  • Requirements for Inspecting and Testing of existing electrical installations
  • The completion of the Electrical Installation Condition Report and Supporting Documentation
  • Requirements for completing the periodic inspection of electrical installations
  • The differences between periodic inspection and initial verification
  • Requirements for the safe testing of electrical installations which have been placed in service
  • Understand and interpret test results
  • Requirements for the completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
  • How to confirm safety of system and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
  • How to carry out inspection of electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
  • How to test electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
  • How to produce a condition report with recording observations and classifications

This course satisfies the NICEIC & ECA requirements for Qualified Supervisor status.These two qualifications are currently required to obtain your JIB grading as an approved electrician.
This course will benefit all qualifying managers and electricians having direct responsibility for the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations.

Students must pass an initial assessment in order to enrol on this course.

This course is no concessions, and requires a telephone interview.

What do I need to get on this course?

This course is ideal if you are a qualified electrician and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

You must have experience and knowledge of Inspection and Testing, and be in possession of: C&G 2330 Level 3 or Equivalent C&G 2382 17th Edition IEE Regs.

It is useful for you to have taken the entry level City & Guilds 2392 Level 2, if you’re new to testing and inspection.

How will I be assessed?

2394 will be assessed by one practical assignment (set by City & Guilds, marked by the centre), and one knowledge test.

2395 will be assessed by one practical assignment (set by City & Guilds, marked by the centre), and one dated entry question paper, which will be available on a set number of dates throughout the year, marked by City & Guilds and an Online test.

Where does it lead?

The topics covered on this course will support entry to higher level programmes in Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering.
