What does the course include?

This course had a 100 per cent pass rate in 2011/2012.

GCSE English is divided into three areas,

  • Speaking and Listening (an oral assessment),
  • Reading (the study of selected poems, a Shakespeare play and a novel),
  • Writing (a range of tasks, including short-story and autobiographical assignments)

In addition, students must compile a written coursework folder under controlled conditions.

What do I need to get on this course?

A minimum of GCSE English at grade D. If you are taking GCSE English for the first time you will be asked to take a diagnostic test. All students will do a piece of free writing and have a formal interview.

Where does it lead?

With a selection of other GCSEs at grade C or above, GCSE English can lead to advanced-level study or to further employment opportunities.
