Course Content

Course Content: AS Level Students will be introduced to the study of language and explore the three contexts of language and power, language and gender and language and technology. Students will also develop their own writing skills in different genres and for different audiences and purposes. Year one:

  • Categorising Texts (30%)
  • Creating Texts (20%) Course Content: A2 Level An individual investigation into language will be undertaken. Language from different periods will be studied as well as the way that children acquire language. Year two:
  • Developing Language (30%)
  • Investigating Language (20%)

Assessment Method

Year one: Students will sit a 2 hour examination Students will produce a coursework folder of about 3000 words Year two: Students will sit a 2 1/2 hour examination Students will produce a coursework investigation of their choice, followed by a linked production of a media text.

Progression

English Language can be used to gain entry to university in combination with other subjects
