This Quality Assured Level 3 Diploma in Egyptology is designed for those wishing to develop their knowledge of ancient Egypt, whether out of personal interest or as the starting point for further academic study.

Throughout the course you will learn about the different historic periods of ancient Egypt and the many monumental buildings, historic cities, artefacts and individuals that have made Egyptian civilization one of the wonders of the ancient world. We recommended you spend approximately 200 hours of your time studying for the course name. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 4 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but  if you could spare 8 hours a week you could complete it in six months.

The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course.  This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about Egyptology and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and study further, so we try to keep our entry requirements to a minimum.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

OLQA Level 3 Egyptology Diploma 

This course leads to a Level 3 Diploma for successful learners. This means that it is accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (in which case GCSE's are at levels 1 and 2 and A Levels are at level 3). In accrediting the programme at level 3, OLQA attests that its learning outcomes are at an equivalent level to a level 3 national qualification.

Archaeologist

As an archaeologist you would study sites and objects to learn about the past. Depending on your specialist area, your work could include: identifying possible sites using methods such as aerial photography, field-walking and surveying taking part in excavations ('digs'), usually as part of a team recording finds and sites using photography, detailed notes and drawings identifying and classifying finds cleaning and preserving finds in a laboratory using laboratory analysis, for example carbon dating using computers to produce simulations of the way a site or artifact would have looked preserving industrial artifacts and buildings checking planning applications and identifying the impact of development on archaeological sites making sure important sites, buildings and monuments are protected and preserved classifying, displaying and looking after artifacts in a museum. You could also carry out research, write about your work for publication in books and journals, and/or teach in universities, colleges or schools. You could specialise in a particular geographical area (for example Egyptology), period of history (such as Roman) or type of artifact (for example pottery).
