Biology GCSE

A distance learning course is the ideal way to gain a Biology GCSE. Whether you're looking to go on to further education, improve your job prospects or expand your knowledge, distance learning GCSE Biology is a flexible and convenient course, which allows you to comprehensively prepare for the GCSE Biology exam through home study. What's more, because the distance learning GCSE Biology Course is a fully comprehensive course, no prior knowledge is required.

Are you interested in the workings of living things? What impact do we humans have on the planet? What are micro-organisms? Biology is the science of living things. With the wealth of plants, animals and other species that surround us, it's a broad science, and one that's full of intriguing and interesting observations.

In this GCSE Biology course, you'll look at the building blocks of life, and find out just what it is that makes us live and develop. You'll investigate the role of humans in the environment, and delve into the ways our bodies work to stay healthy - and the things we do to prevent this. The development of species will also be covered, as well as importance of habitat in their evolution and survival.

In addition, you'll look at genes and hereditary traits, and the ways our bodies cope with disease and waste. You'll also learn about micro-organisms, their role in health and food production, and the issues surrounding their safe usage.

COURSE ASSESSMENT

Each lesson of the GCSE Biology course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study. Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment questions, and there are a large number of simply drawn and easy-to-copy illustrations. There are eight tutor-marked assignments, two major progress tests and three practice exam papers. No previous study of the subject is required.

All units are broken down into clear subject topics, and students should spend the amount of time studying for each topic as advised by their course tutor. Each topic module has been written for ease of understanding and topic coverage may be of different length and difficulty depending on the level of detail and information required. You will need to study the modules in the sequence provided.

Practical Skills/Coursework

The assessment has two parts:

The practical skills assessment (PSA) assesses the student?s ability to work in an organised and safe manner whilst working practically. It can be carried out at any time during the course.

The investigative skills assignment (ISA) assesses the student?s ability to undertake a task and collect, process and evaluate data. The ISA can be carried out at any time during the course.? Students carry out the PSA set by AQA, they then take a written test under controlled conditions. The test asks questions concerning the data collected during the practical task as well as that provided as part of the test.
