The Masters degree in Advanced Security and Cybercrime focuses on extending your knowledge into leading-edge issues related to network and computer security technologies and processes, both generally and with a particular focus on the growing threats from cybercrime. The course blends hands-on technical knowledge with theoretical understanding, utilizing a range of remotely accessible resources to allow access to specialized computer configurations. These remote systems allow you to engage with the practical activities of the course from home or work. We also have well-equipped labs, which will be utilized on your visits to the campus. You will gain a wide range of skills, including network security, operating system security, cloud security, security auditing, security standards, digital forensics, network forensics, and the application of skills to real-world problems and environments. What's involved This is a part-time course studied over 18 months. You study Advanced Professional Practice over the course of 1 year, applying your course knowledge within your current employer. In parallel to this you study 1 module per trimester on a 1 day per month basis, plus additional self study with the support of distance learning material. These additional modules provide the skill set for you to pursue a career in security and countering cybercrime. In the second year you undertake a 6 month project. Year 1 Advanced Professional Practice Plus: Trimester 1 (Sep-Dec) Host-Based Forensics * (or Network Security) Trimester 2 (Jan-May) e-security * (or Advanced Cloud and Network Forensics) (or Management of Software Projects) Trimester 3 (May-Aug) Security Audit and Compliance Year 2 (Sep-Apr) MSc Dissertation * indicates the recommended modules for the course, and alternate modules are subject to availability. You can start the course in September, January, or May. The above structure is for a September start, and other starting times follow a similar structure except that the taught modules may be presented in a different order.

Requirements at a glanceEntry to the courseApplicants should have gained an Honours Degree (min 2:2) with some coverage of computer networking. A lower qualification may be considered if accompanied by appropriate work experience. Additionally you should already be employed in an area which would allow you to apply course knowledge in an aspect of your employment, and have the support of your employer.
