Course Length: Approximately 12 months Entry Requirements:

Apprentices must be keen to work in the sector to support teaching and learning in schools. They should have attention to detail, and be willing to work in a team environment whilst also being willing to work using their own initiative when required. Apprentices who took their GCSE’s more than five years ago and did not gain a C grade or above will need to take a literacy and numeracy test.

Core Skills:

The frameworks provide training for the various roles in teaching and assisting in the classroom.

Assessment:

Assessment for this qualification is carried out via the workplace.

Career Progression:

Employment opportunities exist within primary, special and secondary schools in both the state and independent sectors. There will be increasing opportunities for apprentices to take on a wider range of responsibilities. Opportunities also exist to move into other roles across the wider children's workforce eg child care, play work or youth work.

Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

Level 3 Certificate in Cover Supervision of pupils in Schools

Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools

Level 2 qualifications in Children's Care, Learning and Development, Playwork or Youth work for those wishing to transfer to other areas working with children and young people.

Costs:

An employer contribution is required for those aged either 19+ or who have a level 4 or higher qualification.
