Description

What will I do on the course?

This is a 6 week introductory course to printing techniques and processes. You will be introduced to Dry Point Etching & Collagraph. Photographs, drawings and other visual resource reference will be used as a starting point to develop the dry point Etching & Collagraph. Techniques learnt on the course will be how to plan, design & transfer selected image(s), prepare the printing plates, mark-making, tone & textural effects, using a variety of materials. All techniques will be shown through demonstration and 'one to one'. The Tutor will discuss print work created as it develops.

What equipment will I need?

Basic Materials: Students will need to bring the following:
  • Apron/overall,
  • Gloves (marigolds or laytex gloves)
  • Old News paper(s) to wrap work up
  • Plastic folder (to transfer prints),
  • A4 Sketch book (for drawing & designing image), A3 tracing paper, range of soft to hard pencils, Putty rubber, eraser, knife (with retractable blade)
  • Ball point pen (black)
  • Watercolour paints or pencils
  • Masking tape
  • Photograph or visual reference from the internet
  • Palate Knife
  • Craft Knife
  • Cotton wool Buds
  • Any textural materials to create marks can be collected e.g. anaglypta wall paper, tissue paper, tin foil, white acrylic paint, white Gesso, sand, sandpaper, PVA glue (can be used to create textures & for sticking things down)
  • Please note: Other Materials will be discussed
